Monolithi Beach 11km from the City of Preveza, Greece, is the largest stretch of coast in the European Union.
25km of soft sand and crystal clear blue waters of the Ionian Sea it is easy for everyone to find a place that suits them.
Monolithi is special because of the surrounding no build archeological zone thanks to the importance of the ancient city of Nikopolis. Leaving the beach with an unspoilt feel in many areas even in the height of Summer.
The beach is just off a main road with easy access and has a huge free car park right to the sands making it perfect for campervans of all sizes.
For anyone interested in pursuing the dream of skinny dipping in the sun if you park at the Mango beach bar and take a left away from the hotels, you will find a Nudist beach further along sheltered from the road by some cliffs.
There are many local people who visit the beach for snorkeling, free diving & spear fishing. Some local fishermen set their rods up too by the edge of the sea.
The sea is so perfect for swimming and splashing around with children. The beach gently slopes into warm, calm, crystal clear water. There are plenty of fish swimming round the shallows for the children to spot.
Many families visit with all manner of crazy inflatable devices for bobbing about on the gentle waves. Although they mainly congregate by the sunbeds of the beach bar so if you are looking for a little more peace and quiet then just edge up the beach a bit, you will find enough space.
Dogs are also permitted on the beach, although it’s mainly tourists who visit in peak season so there aren’t many.
If you have a bit of spare cash and do fancy a tipple or a lazy lunch on a cosy sofa or bean bag, it’s highly worth hitting up The Mango Beach Experience. Selling moderately priced mezze plates of cheese and cold meats, club sandwiches and salads.
They also have an amazing selection of cocktails and beach tunes blasting out. Free beach tap and shower. Sun beds & sofas for hire, they even have a massage team on site. The staff team are a friendly young bunch, incredibly efficient but happy vibes. Despite its contemporary laid back vibes families are made to feel very welcome.
Monolithi beach is beautiful and so easy for families, there are a couple of quieter and more picturesque coves nearby that are very much worth exploring but parking and access isn’t always as easy.
If you want a stress free, easy (and free!) day out with small people playing in the sea and building sand castles or just chilling out in the sun whilst enjoying a beach picnic or an iced coffee from the bar then definitely put Monolithi on the list.
